(TOS - The Eugenics Wars novel: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1) Sergeant Gempp was identified as being under Corporal Kilheffer's command, even though a sergeant normally outranks a corporal. However, it is possible that Gempp's grade was the result of a non-combatant role, placing him under Kilheffer in tactical situations.
