In the 14th century, the Kataan sun novaed with the result that the civilization on Kataan was destroyed. Before their destruction, the inhabitants launched a probe, containing the memories of Kamin and a flute, into space. About a thousand years later, in 2368 , this probe intercepted the USS Enterprise-D and transmitted the memories of Kamin into the mind of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The path of the probe was traced back to this sector by a Federation probe launched by the Enterprise-D. (TNG: "The Inner Light" )
