Another difference between the two is that in levels where he is considered a rideable Animal Buddy, he cannot ascend. Instead, having him flap his wings will only slow down his descent. He only appears in the level "Parrot Chute Panic" in DKC2, and in the levels "Low-G Labyrinth" and "Buzzer Barrage" in DKC3.
