__NOWYSIWYG__ It has been brought to my attention that there needs to be a forum for this, so here goes. At the moment, we've had the same two stories featured on the fanon mainpage for three months. They haven't been nominated and voted in again, they are just there because no other story or article has been voted for to be featured. I, personally, think this is wrong. By allowing those stories to stay there, it is unfair to the other stories and articles thst have had, or do deserve, a spot, and it cheapens the system, and the effect having a story featured; by this I mean it makes the message of the story being a good one that many people have supported less powerful, and as time goes by, people are less likely to look at them, because they become a constant. And people don't look at what they expect to see. I love looking at the new stories that have been featured; the change catches my eye. I'm sure other people feel the same way. So, I propose a change, that each month we do not have a new story, we don't allow the old one to remain up there. Instead, we have, on the months that either the FFS or FFA is chosen, a link to the nominating page, and a brief description on how to do it. On the months that we have neither an FFS/FFA, we have that, plus a link to the , or , to take people directly to the source of the fanon articles on this wiki, complete with a brief description about the types of stories we have. Thoughts, questions, comments, queries? 12:34, December 30, 2013 (UTC) I do not agree with the assessment that is "cheapens" the system, as the community has all the power to change that, neither do I agree with the generalization that is lessens the effect of a featured page as the slider's main effect it likely on the newcomers who don't know where else to look for the featured stories (or the candidates). And by the time the featured stories become a constant something for them, they'll likely have already figured out where else to look for the new featured candidates. However, there is something to be said that the rules could be adapted. The adaption sounds all right by me, though I think the open spot should direct to something having to do with the featured stories/articles, meaning that it could indeed be to the nominating page and the other spot could direct to the old featured stories and/or the articles. 13:22, December 30, 2013 (UTC) i agree with the original post. Intelligence4 (wall • contribs) 19:11, December 30, 2013 (UTC) I don't like the idea of linking to the featured fanon category, because there are plenty of other stories out there that haven't been featured. They've had their turn on the mainpage. I want to link people to the stories that they could pick, as opposed to telling them that they can nominate them, but not the stories that we've put up there for convenience. It seems sort of counter-intuitive to do it like that. 02:01, December 31, 2013 (UTC) This proposal sounds agreeable to me. For months that we have neither one, I favor linking to the story pages category over the story category, since it seems more helpful for newcomers to be linked to a page with all the links to story pages on it versus a link to a page with other generic top-level categories. For the months that one or the other is chosen, a link to the featured fanon system does appear appropriate, as it helps get the ball rolling again. To clarify, for months where both FFS and FFA are chosen, we feature both as we have in the past, i.e., nothing changes, right? -- 02:14, December 31, 2013 (UTC) Yes. This is only to prevent a fanon from being 'featured' beyond its month, so if we have both the FFA/FFS, then there is no links to nominating/category pages. 02:16, December 31, 2013 (UTC)
