He was born at St Brenda's Maternity Hospital in Clifton, Bristol, on March 1, 1955. He went to Christ Church School then Bristol Cathedral School, where he was head choirboy. After an art foundation course at Weston College, he did a degree at Kingston-Upon-Thames, before studying at the Royal College of Art. Andrew's creativity was inspired by his grandmother Winnie Catford who was a talented artist. By the age of ten his talent was already beginning to shine and he won a Blue Peter national art competition. He went on to have an accomplished and successful career as a freelance graphic artist, working for companies including Crabtree & Evelyn, Waitrose, botanical and floral commissions for Mallett's in London, and working at the Walt Disney animation studios in London and Paris.
