He was born at St Brenda's Maternity Hospital in Clifton, Bristol, on March 1, 1955. He went to Christ Church School then Bristol Cathedral School, where he was head choirboy. After an art foundation course at Weston College, he did a degree at Kingston-Upon-Thames, before studying at the Royal College of Art. Andrew's creativity was inspired by his grandmother Winnie Catford who was a talented artist.
