However, it would also be used by the Alliance Fleet, which ended up with several of these ships in their hands. It would serve as the basis for the larger EF78 Nebulon-B2 Heavy Frigate of the Alliance Fleet.

It measures 300 meters in length. They are fairly slow, unwieldy ships (for their size), and are designed to carry a number of starfighters as protection. They have a normal crew of 916, and are built for not quite a fifth the cost of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer.
- The standard Nebulon-B frigate was armed with twelve turbolaser batteries, twelve lasercannons, and two tractor beam projectors. It was designed to carry twenty-four TIE-series starfighters. The EF76 was introduced some months after the Clone Wars, long before the formal establishment of the Rebel Alliance. The Nebulon-B was originally designed to defend Imperial convoys against raids by Rebel starfighters. The Imperial Navy was loath to relegate it's expensive Imperial star destroyer to escort duty, while the Corellian Corvettes were too weak and carried few if any TIE fighters.
