Janus was a warlock who was able to live on the life forces of others. In so doing, the victim would age rapidly. This was the case for a girl who was captured by Janus but rescued by Hercules. Janus had removed his heart. It was kept alive in a jar in his cave. In a fight with Hercules, Janus' heart was destroyed and thus, Janus was killed. Janus lived in a cave in which there was a fountain reputed to have curative waters. Hercules took water from the fountain to try to cure his friend Cheiron's wounds.
