Butley is a 1971 stage play by Simon Gray. It was first produced at the Criterion Theatre in London's West End under the direction of Harold Pinter, with Alan Bates in the title role. Bates reprised his performance the following year on Broadway at the Morosco Theatre, winning a Tony Award as Best Actor in a Play. A 1974 film version, also directed by Pinter, stared Bates, Jessica Tandy, Richard O'Callaghan, Susan Engel and Michael Byrne. A 2006 Broadway revival at the Booth Theatre featured Nathan Lane in the leading role.
