Likewise, the rewards gained from defeating a superboss are often not particularly useful—sometimes they give a key item as a proof of defeating the boss—as the player must already be extraordinarily skilled to defeat the boss in the first place, they thus have no need for further battle enhancements afterwards. Superbosses exist to challenge the player and give them something to do once the main storyline is finished.

  • To qualify as a Superboss, an enemy has to have a level range of 2000 to 9999, have their own special stage, must not be mandatory in order to complete the main story, and have much higher stats than what is expected at their level. The rewards for defeating a Superboss may vary, for some will join the party (ex. Marjoly, Zetta, Priere), some will give out the game's best equipment (ex. Super Time Engine, Great Baal Horn), or some may give out special titles(ex. the Tyrant title by defeating Baal). The player can also earn trophies by defeating Superbosses in a Disgaea game that has Trophy support.
  • Except for the Final Marcus, the Unique Monsters that are over level 100 will always be red-tagged regardless of the party's level. The red tags augment the Unique Monsters' agility, damage resistance, and damage dealt to targets. These level 100+ Unique Monsters also have several special abilities. These may include, but are not limited to: These unique monsters appear after the events of Mechonis Core, except for Final Marcus, which appears starting on the first visit of Valak Mountain.
  • Superbosses are bosses that can only be fought after the game's final boss is defeated and the credits are first seen. As the name suggests, those bosses are way stronger than normal ones, and must be faced after doing a lot of grinding unless you want a humiliating defeat. They require great preparation in order to be fought. Along with beating the game, most of these enemies have other prerequisites, like defeating another boss beforehand or completing certain quests. Also, they are often hidden either on the game's 6th stratum or on hidden areas of the early strata.

Also, they are often hidden either on the game's 6th stratum or on hidden areas of the early strata. It should be noted that, unless you seek to complete everything the game has to offer, you will find very few reasons to fight them as the rewards are rarely worth the trouble. However, if you seek to complete the game's bestiary, every quest and the item compendium, you will have to defeat them without fail. Another characteristic of these bosses is that, in most cases, they use the battle theme Scatter About, making it one of the few recurring tracks of the series.
