The 2008 Sprint Cup Series was the 60th season of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The season began with the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on February 17 and ended with Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 16. Jimmie Johnson won the championship, becoming the first driver to three-pete since Cale Yarborough in 1978. This was the first year that the Car of Tomorrow competed the full cup schedule. Due to Sprints merger with Nextel, the series will be named Sprint Cup.
