Währenddessen taucht auch ein solches Phantom in der TARDIS des Doctors auf und attackiert sie. Nyssa wird ins London des Jahres 1865 teleportiert - ein Jahr, nachdem der Doctor die TARDIS dort notlandete - und wird von dessen neuen Assistenten Robert McIntosh zu seinem Haus in der Baker Street geführt, wo der Doctor sich eine Existenz als Dr. Walters, ein angesehener Gelehrter in der Royal Societey, aufgebaut hat. Gemeinsam versuchen sie, Brewster am Bau der Zeitmaschine zu hindern und die Invasion der gasförmigen Phantome abzuwenden.
