He played college hockey at the University of Denver from 1968 to 1970. Despite scoring 70 goals in 64 games he was overlooked in the draft. The St. Louis Blues signed him as a free agent in 1970. He scored 15 goals and 10 assists as a rookie in 1970-71. 1971-72 was a less successful season and he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in March. The Sabres suspended Morrison for refusing to report to the Rochester Americans. In the NHL he played in 115 games and scored 17 goals and 21 assists. In the WHA he scored 123 goals and 142 assists in 361 games.
