| - Commander Simon M. Eckhart was born in the capital city of Sivad on August 15th, 2979. The son of a computer programmer and a construction engineer, he was an only child and was the central focus of their attention. Possessing a strong streak of personal liberty, he left his family at the age of majority and enlisted into the Royal Naval Service. His time in the Royal Naval Academy earned Eckhart several demerits for minor rules infractions and acts of insubordination. Despite this he graduated with honors, specializing in tactics, ship gunnery, and small arms. As his first assignment he was stationed as a space traffic controlled aboard the HMSB Resolute. During the Sol-Sivad War, Eckhart was assigned as 6th Lieutenant aboard the frigate HMS Astute, serving as communications officer. After the end of hostilities between Sivad and Mars, he transferred in 3004 aboard the flagship HMS Indefatigable. In his new position, Eckhart served as the ship's tactical officer during the Birthright War, fighting in most of the major campaigns including La Terre, Mars and the final assault on Nalhom. After First Officer Graham Nelson transferred to the Academy to teach, Eckhart was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and became the new XO. In 3005 he was once again promoted, this time to the ranks of commander, and was given his first command, the new Tornado-class destroyer HMS Regreb Bay. As CO of the Regreb Bay, Commander Eckhart became the central figure in a controversy surrounding the planet Nocturn. Leading a scout mission to the planet in March of 3006, he and his crew were one of the first to encounter the entity 'Morden Kamir.' Surviving the encounter, the crew of the Regreb Bay returned to Sivad. However a delay in the incident being reported became a fatal mistake when the civilian Odarite freighter T'kzklz entered the system. Its entire crew were quickly driven mad by Morden Kamir, and all but two killed each other. In an infamous report given before the OATO Council on the incident, Commander Eckhart in all but name blamed the Odarite government for the deaths of the T'kzklz crew, citing that Nocturn was a dangerous planet even before the arrival of Morden Kamir. This earned Commander Eckhart the wrath of many on the OATO Council, especially Demarian President Tuftcheek Longvision, whom Commander Eckhart has publically clashed with.
