Following the influx of mercenaries into the Unknown Regions to participate in the Raider Wars, Bloodhaven came under mercenary control, serving as a base for various factions. As the war deescalated and the demand of mercenaries became more limited, tension between mercenary factions rose until open conflict erupted, beginning the War beyond the Veil, located within the Blackwatch Veil. Over the course of the war, the Warhounds rose to dominance, seizing control of Bloodhaven and leaving the weaker mercenary units to complete among themselves for clients while at the same time establishing themselves and other mercenary guilds as deterrents for disgruntled mercenary units from degrading into pirates themselves. As a direct result of the War beyond the Veil's conclusion, control of Bloodhaven became equated with control over the mercenary guilds. Hence, skirmishes and strife for control of Bloodhaven became extremely commonplace, by the time of the Extant War, none had been capable of displacing the Warhounds until their departure from the Unknown Regions altogether.
