Rovers earned their first home win of the 2011–12 season thanks to a 2–1 victory over Northampton Town at the Memorial Stadium. Jo Kuffour gave Rovers the lead in the first half, but the Cubblers equalised when an attempted clearance cannoned off of substitute Adebayo Akinfenwa and into the net. Rovers had the last laugh however thanks to Matt Harrold's 75th-minute winner, sending Gary Johnson's men home without a point.
