Dexter Morgan is the protagonist of both the DEXTER television series and the Dexter Book Series. He's introduced as a Serial killer and later, a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department. He has an adoptive sister by the name of Debra Morgan and learns later on that he has a biological brother by the name of Brian Moser. His adoptive parents are Harry and Doris Morgan, unfortunately both have passed away prior to the events of season one.

Following the events of Season Two, Dexter has rekindled his relationship with Rita Bennett following the situation with Lila West and the Bay Harbor Butcher Investigation has all but dissolved with the prime suspect in that case being the deceased former Sergeant James Doakes. Dexter continues his life as a Serial killer while staying comfortably in a relationship with Rita but finds soon that not only will he be gaining a "best friend" in Assistant District Attorney Miguel Prado but also that he will be a father, as Rita becomes pregnant. With a new Serial killer in town known as The Skinner, Miami Metro Homicide proceeds to track their suspect while Dexter focuses more on the fact that someone knows the dark truth of Dexter being a killer...and accepts it.
