Masnick started his National Hockey League career with the Montreal Canadiens in 1951. He also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Black Hawks. He left the NHL after the 1958 season. He won the Stanley Cup in 1953 with Montreal. He played junior with the Regina Pats (a Canadiens' farm team). In his last season (1949-50) he scored 44 goals and 43 assists in 40 regular season games, and 13 goals and 14 assists in 14 playoff games as the Pats made it to the Memorial Cup final. In his NHL career, Masnick played in 232 games and scored 18 goals and 41 assists.
