St. Adolphus (also known in English as St. Adolph) and his brother John were 9th century Spanish martyrs. Both men were residents of Seville, the sons of an Islamic father and a Christian mother. They were caught up in the persecutions conducted by the Caliph of Córdoba, Abd ar-Rahman II, Adolphus and John were martyred in Córdoba. Their joint feast day is September 27. St. Adolphus is the saint of Kingsbridge Cathedral in the epic historical novels The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End by Ken Follett
