I could buy a lot more wine if I didn't have pay you so much." Wren Seaspray Belladonna: "And if you want to get out of the woods, just start walking. The misdirection spells will get out. They shouldn't have let you in." She turns toward a distant pixie. "Moonglow, why did the misdirection spells let them in?" Marik: "Probably because I wasn't listening to them. We don't need to just get out of the woods - there's a large part of the terrain between here and Polisberg that we didn't quite walk through. Have you got maps, at least?" Wren Seaspray Belladonna: "Maps? No, we don't get places around here very much. Those wretched antmen and the harpies and the Redmud Moors... we don't like any of that." Pixie: One of the pixies steps forward. "There is an old road, though. Leads north into the Moors." Marik: "North? North is good. If you can point us to that road, we'll be out of your woods soonest." Pixie: He looks a little confused. "It's just east of here. Runs through that wretched human city ruin and into the old stream. Goes north to the moors. I don't know how you'd miss it with those big eyeballs of yours." Shelley: (( we came down the road :D )) Shelley: (( that's the "not a path honest" )) Marik: ((Oh, balls.)) Wolfgang: ((Does it come out of the stream tho?)) GM: You came across a road south of the stream. The town is north of the river. GM: The road could continue on past the north bank of the river, though. Marik: "I had to keep them closed most of the way here to avoid the misdirection spells. We'll try to make it out of your borders by the time we camp for the night." He shoulders his pack and bows. "Thank you for your help - when we pass back this way, you can be assured I'll bring gifts." Pixie: "Bring dwarven plate! In my size!" Wren Seaspray Belladonna: "And wine! And houses! And chairs! And don't bring that undead thing, we don't want it!" Wolfgang: "They make it in your size?" Pixie: "Yes!" ** Wolfgang notes to pick up some wine and doll houses ** GM: So what's the plan now? Marik: East to the road. Then follow it north. Shelley: Hopefully it includes "Pick up the zombie and the posessed on the way out" Shelley: Also "Hunt a dear for the zombie to eat" Marik: Yes, mum. Shelley: And would it kill you to wash your hair once in a while? GM: You find the road about 1/4 mile east of the edge of the forest, where it curves from heading west to north around the edge of the eastern woods. Marik: It's about what time now? GM: 7 pm. Sun is just going down. GM: The road is hard to follow, meandering off to the NNE. Marik: Camp here. Hunt down a deer, or other large creature. GM: You guys can all see in the dark. Marik: Yes, but messing with the day/night cycle of marching is just bad mojo. Shelley: Makes hunting easier doesn't it? Salley will be nagging people to keep moving. Marik: ...Unless there's some distinct advantage to traveling at night. Shelley: We get there sooner. Shelley: Means we get this guy purged sooner. Shelley: Means Salley stops staring at you. Marik: Right, then. Push on. Wolfgang: yay! GM: Usually you have to stop walking because Wolfgang is tired, but he's still fresh after idling all day. GM: Most of the day. Marik: Speed is more important than stealth. Marik stops scouting. GM: Also, at some point Beltarne healed people. GM: Okay. Marik: So yeah. Keep following the road, for as far as it goes. Not that it's much of a road. GM: Everyone make Vision checks, at -5 darkness penalty. Shelley: Vision (12) [3d6.skill(12,-5+2)] => [3,5,4] = 12 vs (9) or less Failure! by 3 Marik: Vision: [3d6.skill(16,+2-1)] => [3,2,1] = 6 vs (17) or less Critical Success! by 11 [B556] Wolfgang: Vision (13) [3d6.skill(13,0)] => [2,2,1] = 5 vs (13) or less Success! by 8 Skeleton: Vision (8) [3d6.skill(8,0)] => [5,1,4] = 10 vs (8) or less Failure! by 2 Skeleton: (+4 if it's alive!) Towards the end of the first hour, they start slogging through thick, heavy mud. Another hour of hard travel brings through a featureless bog of red mud, but in the distance, Marik can make out the remains of an old road surface, slightly harder and partially gravelled, running from the east to west at a slight angle. A half mile beyond is a lake, and a familiar looking island. GM: I've totally forgotten, does Shelley freeze mud or just solid water? Shelley: "Only over water" says the accessability. GM: okay, the mud partially freezes but it just makes it slippery and not in a good skating way. Shelley: Frozen mud is funny. :D Marik: "Well, at least I've connected our two maps." Marik: "Let's head for the lakeshore; Shelley, can you get us across?" GM: The road curves to the north if you head east. Marik: So around the lake? Shelley: "Straight across. It's faster." GM: No, from experience you know that it ends SE of the harpy island. There used to be bridge. Marik: "Right. Straight across it is." GM: You took the road down to the harpy island at one point, I think. GM: Are you guys continuing on through the night? Marik: Until Wolfgang gets cranky. GM: Okay. Wolfgang: we've been going 2 hours so far? Wolfgang: sure Marik: 4 hours, I think. Marik: But we're making good time. GM: About 4 hours since you left the campsite, including the bits where you talked to pixies. Marik: Something something good weather and not constantly doubling back on my own trail something. GM: Okay. GM: Pick it up next week, then.
