Andrews initially became involved with the series through his previous work with fellow composer Daniel Ingram; the two had worked together on Martha Speaks and Pound Puppies. He has cited John Williams and Michael Giacchino among his musical inspirations. For his work on My Little Pony, Andrews was a co-recipient (with Ingram) of the 2013 Leo Award for "Best Musical Score in an Animation Program or Series" for Magical Mystery Cure, and he was nominated for the same award in 2014 for Pinkie Pride.
