- In The Muppet Show episode 524, an international spy ring attempts to sneak ridiculous stories into the news. The Newsman reports that a black and yellow striped mackerel was elected king this morning, stopping his report when he realizes the ridiculousness of his story. He calls for the news studio guard (a Whatnot based on Bruno with a mustache, performed here by Richard Hunt) who has been showing "his majesty", the mackerel, around the newsroom. The Newsman exclaims "Holy Mackerel!", but the royal fish says that "Your Highness" will do. He asks the Newsman if he'd like to be knighted, proceeding to knock him out, thus wishing him "good night".
- The king mackerel (also called kingfish) is probably the best known of this family of fish. The mackerel has a firm, high-fat flesh with a pleasant savory flavor. When small (about 1 pound), it's sold whole. Larger fish are cut into fillets and steaks. Mackerel is also available smoked or salted. The latter must be soaked overnight before using to leach excess salt. Mackerel can be cooked in almost any manner including broiling, baking and sautéing.

- Mackerel is a type of fish that players can use as food. When eaten, the player is healed 6 hits. It can be obtained by cooking a Raw Mackerel on a range or fire with a cooking level of 10 or higher, granting 60 cooking experience.

For this reason, mackerel is the only common salt-cured sushi. Mackerel fishery is well established in India, the species caught is usually Rastrelliger kanagurta.

* Can be obtained only from specific map nodes. A notification will appear on a drop (see the gallery above).
* Can drop only on A and S ranks, with a higher drop rate for S ranks.
* Can drop even when you have no ship slots left.
* Doesn't prevent normal ship drops. Also can drop without a ship drop.
* You can't have more than 99 fishes at the same time during the event. The following two mechanics are likely to affect the drop rates (note that the following info is partially speculative and wasn't properly tested):
