In 1993, the national government of the Democratic Republic of Brazil organized a referendum to legalize the form of government of the country. The options were: presidential republic, parliamentary republic and parliamentary monarchy. The presidential republic received 36% of the vote, parliamentary republic received 12% and parliamentary monarchy, 52%. With the victory of the monarchy, the empire was re-established, but in a democratic way. In 1993 was born the Third Empire of Brazil.
