| - power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely
- The World Government from One Piece may seem to care about the welfare of people, but the majority are power hungry and corrupt. They use the navy to hunt down pirates and anyone who disobey them. They ally with 170 counties and run the marines they use to commit questionable actions such as killing people who they think are too powerful to control. They believe that their word is final, true, and ultimately just. Those who oppose them are villains and enemies of the world itself. Within the World Government are some honest good men with good intentions, however they are heavily outnumbered by the more corrupt and power hungry individuals. Because of this, they are one of the main antagonist factions of the series.
- World Government is a dormant flag on the Hunter Ocean.
- World government is the concept of a political body that would make, interpret and enforce international law. Inherent to the concept of a world government is the idea that nations would be required to pool or surrender (depending on point of view) sovereignty over some areas. In effect, a world government would add another level of administration above the existing national governments or provide coordination over areas national governments are not capable of adequately addressing as independent polities. The authority granted this level and how it relates to national governments and/or citizens is debated by both proponents and opponents of world government.
- World Government is one of four Future Technologies and becomes available at the Library, once all regular technologies have been researched. It requires a vast amount of File:Knowledge.jpg Knowledge, File:Food.jpg Food, and time (unless you have the Super Collider Wonder) to research and researching it increases the cost for all subsequent Future Technology research. World Government removes timers, allowing certain events to occur instantaneously:
* timer victories
* assimilation of captured cities
* enemy capital elimination

The Marines serve as their primary military organization, headed by the Fleet Admiral, while the Cipher Pol operate behind the scenes, either through sabotage, reconnaissance, spying, espionage and/or assassination; their most powerful enemies are largely pirates and revolutionaries. The Commander-in-Chief oversees both the Marines and Cipher Pol as well as the Shichibukai, at least officially, and is second only to the Gorosei. Impel Down serves as the World Government's most impenetrable maximum-security prison.
