The Tamapitchi was a PHS (Personal Handyphone System) that was released in June 1997. It contained a "P-mail" function, which allowed users to call and let their Tamagotchi "go visit" the Tamagotchi in their friend's Tamapitchi. The two Tamagotchi could play, eat together, or just visit when one of them is sick. Using the PHS's internal address book, users could set their Tamagotchi to react in one of four ways, ranging from "super happy" to "super sad," depending on who is calling. Tamapitchi came with a function to send short messages; the data transmission rate was 32K bps. It retailed for 45,000 Yen.
