California State University, Fresno, commonly referred to as Fresno State, is one of the campuses of California State University, located at the northeast edge of Fresno, California. The campus sits at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the San Joaquin Valley. Fresno County is the sixth largest metropolitan area in California. The university is within an hour's drive of many mountain and lake resorts and within a three- or four-hour drive of both Los Angeles and the Bay Area.

| - The Fresno State Bulldogs represent California State University, Fresno (commonly referred to as Fresno State) in 19 NCAA Division I sports. The teams are members of the Mountain West Conference. Before that, it had been a member of the Western Athletic Conference since the 1992-93 before leaving for the Mountain West during the 2012-2013 season. Fresno State had also been a member of the Big West Conference since the 1969-70 (the conference was known as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association at that time until 1988). Fresno State was also a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association from its beginning in the 1939-40 season (when Fresno State was in NCAA Division II). On August 18, 2010, it was announced that Fresno State, alongside fellow WAC member Nevada, would accept an offer to move to the Mountain West Conference. Fresno State and Nevada made the move, effective July 1, 2012. The university has won two NCAA Division I Championships in both Softball (1998) and Baseball (2008).
