About: Latin American supercentenarians   Sponge Permalink

An Entity of Type : owl:Thing, within Data Space : 134.155.108.49:8890 associated with source dataset(s)

This is a list of Latin American supercentenarians. Overseas departments of France are included for geographical purposes, due to the similar tropical climate. Current validated data would suggest that the climate of this region has a postive impact on extreme longevity. The number of cases aged 114+ seems to be higher than normal...however, data for earlier ages (110-113) may be underrepresented. It is expected that data mining in this area will contribute to a fuller understanding of supercentenarian population profile in time.

With the vast majority of the Latin American population being of Roman Catholic faith, the absence of original birth certificates can in many instances be compensated by using baptismal records to check the veracity of a claimant. The availability and accessibility of these record is dependent on factors such as the claimant's social class, local/national privacy laws, the willingness for the claimant's family and/or caretakers to cooperate with an organization that specializes in age validation, etc. For an unverified case to be included on the list, there has to be a considerable chance of future verification.
