A peculiar surface-finish found only on fine works and in the pale blue jasper body. It consists of very minute dimples, about 1200 to the square inch, very smooth to the touch, but giving a "dead" or "matted" appearance to the ground; and thus affording greater contrast to the adjacent white figures. Specimens of granulated bodies may be seen figured in "Life of Wedgwood," vol. ii. p. 513, and in "Wedgwood and his Works" plate xxiv.
