| - Feyenoord v PSV Eindhoven was a match which took place at Stadion Feyenoord on Sunday 22 March 2015. The hosts started with intent and might have taken the lead after just 15 seconds or so. Lex Immers came into possession just a few yards out after an Elvis Manu cross, but seemed to be caught unawares and flashed it wide. The chance set the tone for the first half to some degree. Fred Rutten’s side were on top for most of the opening 45 minutes against the league leaders, and created a number of threatening opportunities but were unable to apply the finish. PSV did go close once themselves – as Adam Maher rattled the woodwork – but the hosts looked the most likely to open the scoring. Jens Toornstra was denied by PSV keeper Jeroen Zoet, and Anass Achahbar might have broken the deadlock midway through the half, but just failed to convert Elvis Manu’s cross. Achahbar, who had been given his chance by Rutten because Colin Kazim-Richards was not deemed ready to start the game, impressed with his tackling and strength on the ball, but looked to lack sharpness in front of goal. But that all changed in a blistering five-minute spell that saw the striker ease his side into a two-goal lead. The first was probably the best goal seen at De Kuip all season. The assist came from Rick Karsdorp, but Achahbar’s reaction was out of the ordinary, as he smashed a shot into the far corner on the turn before the ball even hit the ground. Feyenoord made it two in their next forward sortie. This time Achahbar got the ball on the edge of the box, placing his drive into the far corner. Feyenoord certainly deserved their two-goal lead, but PSV were not ready to cave in. The table toppers showed their tenacity by quickly pulling a goal back through Depay. Despite threatening little since the break, the visitors got themselves back in it when the Eredivisie’s top-scorer beat Kenneth Vermeer with a wicked spinning shot. It set up a nail-biting finale at De Kuip. Substitute Jean-Paul Boëtius could have sealed it at the death when played in by another replacement Kazim-Richards, but Jeffrey Bruma managed to block his shot. The referee added on five minutes at the end of the ninety, but Feyenoord were able to defend their lead and claim the three points they so wanted in the hunt for direct European qualification.
