Ginnie was a student colleague of Ken Barlow at the Manchester University in the early 1960s. In 1961, she helped Ken, Susan Cunningham and Milo to prepare posters for their "Ban the Bomb" march. They were interrupted by Ken's mother Ida while getting ready for the march at Ken's house. Ginnie's surname was not revealed. The character is notable as having been played by Beryl Bainbridge during her brief acting career before she became a Booker-prize nominated author. She made her sole appearance in Episode 8.
