The Svirfneblin are the opposite of gnomes that reside on the surface; rather than being playful and mischievous they are very serious and dubious. However unlike the Dwarven counterpart Duergar they do not have malicious intent. In Shadows of Amn Gorion's Ward encounters Svirfneblin when they enter the Underdark and offer trade and rest to the player.
