| - left|thumb|Earl Rath mourns the lost of his co-star Valeria Sommers.
Charlie Parish attends the funeral of Valeria Sommers with several other workers of Victory Street Pictures. He suddenly spots Gil Mason and becomes angry. He sneaks away and chastises Gil and tells him they could both be fired if they were seen together.
Charlie thinks about how he hasn't been able to write since the way. Gil was blacklisted by Hollywood and the two have teamed up since. Charlie would get the jobs and Gil would write them behind the scenes.
In the present, Charlie takes Gil home who is too drunk to walk straight. His wife, Melba Mason, welcomes them home and Charlie blushes as he may like her more than he likes to admit. Charlie comforts her and tells her that the old Gil will return once he gets back to working again.

The next day at Victory Street Pictures, Charlie waves good morning to Morty, the stunt double for Gil. Gil didn't want to wear bandages on his face all day so they have Morty fill in his place. Inside, Victor Thursby and Franz Schmitt review the footage they have with Valeria Sommers. They lament how she would have been the next big thing had she not been murdered. They both agree this would have made her as the next big star. Thursby drops the news that they have to reshoot and wrap up in 25 days. He's decided to lend Earl Rath to MGM to cover the costs they'll have with this film. Schmitt protests that it cannot be done in time but Thursby tells him he'll figure it out as he leaves. Schmitt immediately turns to Charlie and pitches ideas to him for a re-write as he can't film it all in 25 days.
Charlie gets a sudden call from Melba that Gil just drove off drunk. Charlie heads to the cemetery. Charlie tells him he needs to let go as the cops will get suspicious. Gil punches Charlie in anger. Charlie takes the hits and tells them they need to catch a drink.
