- Rufus Shinra won the Guru Contest for the 2006 Character Battle, scoring 209 points on his bracket (the 9th best score on the site). He chose to have the Gurus nominate Wario, which resulted in Wario becoming the Board's 4th most-nominated character in 2007.

In dem Roman Der Blick nach vorn wird erzählt, dass Rufus während den Ereignissen von Final Fantasy VII 25 Jahre alt ist.
- It is revealed that the Shinra Family had been a Noble Family whom used the Black Blood and Darkness to create an army to crush all opposition except the Light from the Radiant Empire forced them back and later occupied them, in the secret biological weapon development Project: Project J, this formed the creation of Sephiroth whom Rufus sees as a baby brother and Rufus was taught the skills of using Black Blood to stop his ageing roughly twenty years after his birth and ten before his father was killed in a losing defence of Midgard.
- The Turks capture Rufus during the attack on the Old Corel and use him as leverage with President Shinra so that they can save their commander, Veld, and his daughter, Elfé, the AVALANCHE's commander. President Shinra saves him while the Turks are out searching for the support Materia and attempting to rescue Veld. Before the Turks are ordered executed for insubordination, Rufus has the Turks spared since Tseng "assassinated" Veld and Elfé.
