Synopsis
  • In the Tower of Fate, the Justice Society watches as Mordru fight the new Doctor Fate. They try to hel the Doctor, but are swiftly beaten back by Mordru. Atom Smasher recognises the new Doctor's voice, but he is transformed into a mural before he can say anything. The Doctor attacks Mordru with a variety of spells from across the Earth, including Pictish geomancy. As the heroes try to free Starman from a snake which has attacked him, the Tower of Fate begins to rotate through time and space: they become Colonial British loyalists, anthropomorhic animals and knights, but always remain heroes. Eventually, Mordru reveals that he has deployed the Spell of Onyx first crafted by the Atlantean Arion. With itk, he steals control of the vestments of Fate However, the new Doctor turns the tables, trapping Mordru within the Amulet of Anubis. The new Doctro undoes the harm that Nordru did, just in time for Atom Smasher to confirn his identity: Hector Hall. The heroes are recovered, and teleported to the JSA headquarters. There, Hector explains that after his death, the remains of his consciousness drifted through the Dreaming, until it was found by Kent Nelson, who explained that it was his destiny to assume the mantle of Fate. Sand uses this happy revelation to make a suggestion: the Justice Society should officially reform. Everyone agrees . Sentinel nominates Sand as the new chairman. Everything seems to be going well... until Sand turns to a cloud of dust and falls through the floor!
