Hurricane Danielle of 2016 was the earliest known category 5 hurricane in history. It was also an extremely strong hurricane and the strongest of the season, despite wind shear persisting and a high pressure system ridge stalling over the Bay of Campeche, and another category 5 in the season, Hermine.
