Components include dual Ibanez IBZ humbucking pickups with Duo-Sound coil-tap functionality and an Edge double locking tremolo bridge. For 1987, the Back Stop tremolo stabilizer was added and the combination of the Edge trem, Back Stop and Top-Lok III nut was marketed as the "Sure Bet Tuning System." The RG531 is a similar model with a flame maple top.
