The responsible party would seem to be "Lone Vengeance", a comic book hero sprung from the pages to save the city from a tide of scum like Faris, and Tony "The Butcher" Valtini, who, a few weeks earlier, the vigilante used as a whetstone, sharpening his blade by carving an "L" in Tony's behind. Lone Vengeance, however, doesn't command the kind of following that puts Spidey suits in every Halloween costume store, and so our suspect would appear to need to be a handy seamstress as well. After working through an array of candidates, the true killer is identified, and the story has a storybook ending for a couple of others as well.
