Former WBUP/WBKP logo. The station signed-on in January 2003 as a full-time satellite of ABC affiliate WBKP in Calumet. It replaced low-power repeater W28BX channel 28 in Marquette. As a full powered station, WBUP reached more areas than the repeater did because that signal was very weak and could only be picked up in Marquette and Negaunee. It aired an analog signal on VHF channel 10 from a transmitter on the tower of PBS affiliate WNMU in Ely Township. WBKP and WBUP took the on-air branding "ABC 5&10".

  • Former WBUP/WBKP logo. Its original owners (Tom and Sue Scanlan) sold both stations to Lake Superior Community Broadcasting, a company owned by Stephan Marks of Maryland, in January 2004. In July 2007, the two stations split. WBKP switched affiliation to The CW becoming part of The CW Plus while WBUP remained with ABC. Since it was granted an original construction permit after the FCC finalized the DTV allotment plan on April 21, 1997, the station did not receive a companion channel for a digital television station. Instead around June 12, 2009 which was the end of the digital television conversion period for full-service stations, WBUP turned-off their analog signal and turn on its digital signal though an action called a "flash-cut". It then began offering a simulcast of WBKP on a new second digital subchannel.
