A Funditor was the word for someone who used a sling in Roman society. Thus, Funditors are people who use slingshots or other type of throwing weapons (excluding javelins, bows). They tended to be members of the Auxiliary (see Antican Auxiliarius). They used slings (funda) or sling-staffs (fustibali) to fire weights of varying density. The sling was made of leather and could launch projectiles 27.5m (90 feet). The sling-staff could launch projectiles 180m (1800 feet). Funditors wore no armor.
