| - Gourmelin is a human character who appears in the Smurfs comic book story "Gargamel's Twin Brother". He is the identical twin brother of Gargamel, and is considered the disgrace of his family for not following in the same evil footsteps of said brother. In the story, Gourmelin pays his brother a visit, his resemblance to the latter initially confusing Papa Smurf and Sassette, as they see him head towards Gargamel's castle. He offers his hostile brother a magical walking stickman that he says will fulfill whatever single wish a person wants. Naturally, Gargamel accepts the gift, wishing the stickman to help him find the Smurfs. As he and his brother follow the stickman into the forest, Gourmelin captures Sassette, but soon takes pity and releases the little Smurfling, assuring her he can control the stickman with his magic flute. Having lost all interest in going after Smurfs, Gourmelin plays his flute and causes the stickman to go off in another direction, misleading his brother so that he will never find the Smurfs or their village. By nightfall, when Gargamel returns disappointed to his house, he finds a note left by Gourmelin after his departure, saying that he'd rather be a poet than chase after Smurfs. Presumably Gourmelin has raised a family, for in another comic book story Gargamel deals with three lookalike nephews.
