One of the primary functions of a saberstaff was to create fear in the opponent, as a double-bladed lightsaber, with its dual blades, generally looks more menacing than an ordinary one. With a blade on each end, saberstaff combat allows for much more rapid attacks and is inherently more difficult to parry for someone using an ordinary lightsaber. It allows for "more kills per swing", since a user can strike opponents in front and behind oneself simultaneously. This type of lightsaber combat tends to be extremely rare. It is very difficult to master and using a double-bladed lightsaber can be more dangerous to the untrained wielder than to their opponent. Saberstaff combat is also much more aggressive by nature nature and thus deemed too close to the Dark Side by many Jedi. Many of the classic lightsaber forms lend themselves well to saberstaff combat but Juyo and Ataru have been found to be the most effective. Saberstaffs can also be used with the Fast, Medium, and Strong Style variations.
