During this period, the player can grab other characters by touching them. Grabbing another character will cause the two characters to merge into one. This union only lasts for a short amount of time. The merged character takes the form of the character who initiated the merge, and appears slightly larger, flashing red. The character who used the item takes full control and is granted a Bomb capacity of eight and a Fire capacity of eight. Once the fusion ends, the merged character will split back into the original two characters. If the merged character is killed before the fusion ends, the character who initiated the merge will die, while the character who was grabbed will survive with brief invulnerability.
