In 1967, Nyby became an assistant director for "Ironside" and by 1972 received his first directing credits for the episode “Find A Victim”. In the years since, he has directed television movies and episodes of many successful television series, including: "Emergency!" (he also wrote 4 episodes for this series), "Battlestar Galactica", "B.J. And The Bear", "The A-Team", "Simon & Simon", "Moonlighting", "Hill Street Blues", "Walker, Texas Ranger" and "Diagnosis Murder", among many. A respected and prolific director, Nyby considers his "Hill Street Blues" episodes as his favorites. He directed 12 episodes for that series, which is more than any other director. Nyby also directed numerous "Perry Mason" television movies in the late 80's and early 90's. Nyby’s father, Christian Nyby, also a television director (as well as a film editor and director) directed multiple episodes of the original "Perry Mason" series. In 2010 he was the recipient of "The Silver & Gold Award", granted by The University Of Idaho and wrote the prologue for the book "Henry Fonda and The Deputy: The Film And Stage Star And His TV Western", published by Bear Manor Media. His most recent credit as a director is for "Murder 101", a 2006 television movie.
