The New York Yankees failed to make the postseason in 2013, with injury after injury being the theme of the season. Several players were suspended for Biogenesis (others appealed and played). Joe Girardi made a case for Manager of the Year, even though he still doesn't handle a pitching staff properly. However, the team fell short of high expectations and are attempting to go under the $189M threshold or pay a massive luxury tax. 3. I might want to see Girardi again, but I still want to see Pinella or Tony Pena. How about Brad Ausmus or if Minnesota lets go of him, definitely Ron Gardenhire.

Trade him with anyone on the team except Robertson, Gardner and Jeter. Release him, dump his contract... just get rid of the guy. 2. Right off the bat, no offers... no speaking to Joba or Hughes. Those two were horrible Yankees. Don't treat pitchers like them again with rules. Claiborne can also be released following his brutal player down the stretch... maybe a minor league contract. 3. I might want to see Girardi again, but I still want to see Pinella or Tony Pena. How about Brad Ausmus or if Minnesota lets go of him, definitely Ron Gardenhire. 4. Too late to trade Curtis Granderson... how about any prospect not named Tyler Austin, Dante Bichette, Aaron Judge or Mason Williams to Miami for Giancarlo Stanton? Then, lock him up long term. If that fails, Chris Sale now. 5. I'll love to get rid of Cano to avoid locking him up long term. Tyler Austin is the second basemen of the future. Use the money you can use signing Cano for a Stanton extension, a buyout for A-Rod and extensions for D-Rob, Gardner and upcoming prospects. 6. The retirements of Kuroda, Pettitte and Rivera free up around $35M. $10M will be cut for the tax. Granderson will not be resigned. Cano might not either. If neither of them resign, that'll be $70M off the books, not counting Joba or Hughes, which will make it close to $80M. 7. Money will be spent on a new catcher that can actually hit (Brian McCann), a reliable starter (Roy Halladay, Tim Hudson or maybe Tim Lincecum) or maybe even Raul Ibanez.
