- What set Perfect Dark apart from GoldenEye 007 was the texturing used in level design, the incorporation of secondary functions for every weapon in the game, new game modes, and the utilization of voice acting. In essence, Perfect Dark improves upon the high standard GoldenEye 007 set, a standard which is still set to this day.
- Perfect Dark is the first game in the Perfect Dark series. It was developed by Rare for the Nintendo 64 and is often referred to as the spiritual successor to GoldenEye 007. The game incorporates many similar functions to GoldenEye 007, the most evident being the control scheme and general gameplay. - Perfect Dark is a Rare developed first person shooter for the Nintendo 64. It follows the GoldenEye 007 gameplay formula. The gamer plays as Joanna Dark, an Agent that works for Daniel Carrington of the Carrington Institute. The game begins with the mission of recovering an artificial intelligent sapient from the DataDyne Corp. With 21 missions, dozens of cheats to unlock (without the help of button codes), a co-op mode as well as a counter-op mode (player 2 plays the enemy), a shooting range, and many different multi-player features made Perfect Dark one of the more popular games at the time.
- Perfect Dark is GoldenEye's unofficial sequel. It was developed, at least in the beginning, by the same team. It runs on an advanced version of GoldenEye's engine, which has support for many new features, such as elevators and vehicles that can attack the player. Being an original IP, there are no direct references to GoldenEye in the game, but many of its resources, such as textures and object models have been reused. Additionally, the Temple, Complex, and Facility multiplayer arenas were featured, along with a handful of GoldenEye's weapons.
- Perfect Dark is Rare's quasi-sequel to Goldeneye that was released for the N64 in May of 2000. Without the Bond license they had to create a new super spy, and they set it in the future to add some extra spice. The game played similarly to Goldeneye, but had a few framerate issues that got pretty bad in places. These can be blamed on the N64 hardware, not the game itself, but it still makes it fairly unplayable in some people's perspectives. Perfect Dark received a sequel on the Xbox360, a launch title called "Perfect Dark Zero", but most agree it wasn't as good as the first.
- The game features a single-player mode consisting of seventeen missions in which the player assumes the role of special agent Joanna Dark, an operative for the fictional Carrington Institute, as she attempts to foil a conspiracy by rival corporation dataDyne. It also includes a range of multiplayer options, including co-operative and "counter-operative" modes in addition to traditional deathmatch settings. Technically, it is one of the most advanced games developed for the N64, with optional high-resolution graphics and Dolby Surround Sound.
