The Federation-Cardassian border (often referred to simply as the Cardassian border) was a border which divided the United Federation of Planets and the Cardassian Union. A part of the border was divided by the Demilitarized Zone in the early 2370s. - Cardassian star systems on their side of border include the Unefra system and Chin'toka systems. (DS9: "Improbable Cause", "Tears of the Prophets") Two additional systems, the Torg'Q system and the Ventani system were referenced in a deleted scene written for "Tears of the Prophets". The Torg'Q system was the closest potential target along the border to Cardassia Prime, however was also the most heavily fortified. The Ventani system was said to be far from Cardassia Prime and hold little strategic value. Prophet's Landing was the closest Bajoran colony to the border. (DS9: "Heart of Stone")
- With the Dominion takeover of Cardassia, the Cardassian border effectively became the Dominion border; the Cardassians retained control in name only. Over the course of 2375, numerous Starfleet crew were captured by Cardassians and taken across the border to the rasgălor ("outworld" in Cardăsda, a term used for any world located far from the Cardassia system) of Lessek. As it turned out, these Cardassians were rebels who sought the Starfleet crewmembers' aid in their uprising, and the Starfleet contingent agreed to the chance to create havoc behind Dominion lines.
