Nar Kresh, more commonly known as Crucible to non-Hutts, is a planet used by the kajidics for an ongoing series of gladiatorial games that can trace their start 15,000 years into the past, all the way back to the formation of the kajidics themselves. The brainchild of Budhila Hestilic Amura, the same Hutt who came up with the kajidic concept, Nar Kresh was intended to serve as a way to cut down on inter-kajidic violence. The idea being that instead of warring with each other, the kajidics could use others to fight for them to gain prestige and influence. Although the games have been used to settle disputes, in practice it’s more common for Nar Kresh to be used for entertainment and gambling purposes.

abstract
  • Nar Kresh, more commonly known as Crucible to non-Hutts, is a planet used by the kajidics for an ongoing series of gladiatorial games that can trace their start 15,000 years into the past, all the way back to the formation of the kajidics themselves. Nar Kresh is located deep within the Bootana Hutta, a section of Hutt Space fiercely protected by the kajidics. It’s a planet shrouded deeply in rumor and legend since its location is a heavily guarded secret and no ships are allowed to approach the planet unless they belong to a kajidic. All supplies and passengers have to arrive by Hutt-owned transports. The reason for such tight security is that no ships are allowed to land on Nar Kresh except in special exceptions so as to cut down on any possible escape attempts by those the Hutts send down to the surface. Slaves, prisoners, and in rare cases, volunteers, are shot down to the planet by single-use pods from an orbiting space station, Kresh Lorda, which deliver them to the surface. Normally the pods are sent to their designated kajidic strongholds on the planet, but sometimes sending the pods into the wilderness and seeing who survives to reach the stronghold becomes one of the games. The landscape of the planet has been stocked by the Hutts over the millennia with a variety of dangerous animals from across the galaxy for use in the games, giving Nar Kresh one of the most deadly ecosystems to be found anywhere. Each kajidic owns and maintains a stronghold on the planet, which includes training grounds for their gladiators and an arena to host matches. The layout and configuration of these strongholds varies from kajidic to kajidic, as do the arenas themselves, but a basic concept is that the gladiators are kept on the lower levels while the staff and guards occupy the higher levels. Each stronghold is run by a majordomo who takes orders from a Hutt master on Kresh Lorda. In many cases, these majordomos are former gladiators working to earn their freedom. The promise of freedom is the one bit of hope that the Hutts dangle to those sent to Nar Kresh. If the gladiators perform well and please their Hutt masters, they may eventually be granted freedom. Such occurrences are rare since few ever survive long enough to earn that reward, but it’s not unheard of.
