Grown on Vollista, this leaf comes from a ground-based plant which somehow remains green despite growing in caves. It holds this quality chiefly through an innate ability to convert the ultraviolet portions of Vollistan auras into sustenance. It has a number of beneficial effects, including the nigh-instantaneous clotting of most lacerations, cuts, and even bullet wounds, along with disinfectant and speeding of healing properties.

Uses
  • Used chiefly by doctors versed in herbal medicine who have experience with Vollistan patients, colleagues or simply Vollista's flora.
Price
  • Variable. On Vollista, likely free and found commonly. Further from the planet, it might be found at select apothecaries, specialist botany repositories or unique hospitals, and sold for about 4 credits for each "bandage".
Warnings
  • In non-Vollistans, an unpleasant rash can develop if the "tourniquet" is applied. This occurs due to their lack of the cushioning dermal conductors present in the bioluminescent telapaths. Also, the patch will obviously not be as effective on Zangali, Nall, Castori, Centaurans, and other such beings. It is chiefly intended for humanoids with roughly Vollistan-esque skin qualities. A few isolated allergic reactions to the leaf have occurred.
effects long
  • Produces a stinging, annoying rash if used on a non-Vollistan. Rash will clear up a day or so after the patch is removed, but is still a nuisance and deterrant from its use, in spite of the high effectiveness.
effects short
  • Near-instant relief of pain associated with covered lacerations and burns. Highly effective clotting agent, more effective even than combat-styptic. Speeds the healing of such wounds, and frequently cleanses any infections in the immediate area if applied in a timely manner.
delivery
  • This broad plant leaf grows in the cave systems of Vollista, yet is verdantly green. When rolled out wide, it is long enough to wrap around the average humanoid's arm completely, several times. The underside becomes sticky when soaked in hot water, and will stick to the arm, both acting as a combination of bandage and disinfectant, along with speeding the closing of open wounds and inducing rapid clotting. It is applied as a cast-style wrap would be, circled about the wounded portion repeatedly. It needs no pinning or adhesive, as it generates its own.

The broad leaves are removed and used as first aid on Vollista, and possibly by doctors on other planets who have witnessed the effectiveness of the herb. It is sometimes restricted on planets whose medical establishments are leery of "crackpot herb-pushing doctors", but is a quite harmless remedy, and in some cases preferred over more traditional bandages.
