  • Bunn reputedly led an impoverished life before being discovered by Amalgamated Press during a 1949 nationwide search for artists. He would go on to draw for The Comet (Buck Jones and Robin Hood), Sun (Clip McCord), Thriller Comics and, most notably, Lion, for which he co-created The Spider with writer Ted Cowan. His work was noted for the angular qualities his workload forced upon it. Bunn was an invalid after suffering a serious motor accident in 1944. After (jointly) winning a national competition in 1949 to find the best currently available artist in the UK, he spent the next 20 years working from a studio in his home. This was somewhat isolationary by nature and Bunn developed depression. Reg Bunn died from complications after spending nearly a year in Rubery Hill Mental Hospital in 1971.
