The Winchester Model 1887 is an American lever-action Shotgun designed by John Browning in 1887. As most shotguns at the time were Double Barrels, the 1887 was created due to demand for a repeating shotgun by lawmen and cowboys. The shotgun utilized the lever-action operation that Winchester's rifles were known for and became very popular with Law Enforcement and gunslingers, although the military would go on to prefer Browning's later model 1897 pump-action shotgun. Modern versions of the shotgun are reproductions created to fire modern shotshells, as the original weapon fired black powder shells.

- Four "hero" (live fire) Model 1887s were customized for the film Terminator 2: Judgment Day, all of which were used in filming. Modifications done to the Model 1887s include a shortened stock and cut down barrel. Two different styles of levers were used in the film — the standard lever (used in the "Rosebox" shotguns) and a custom loop-style which allowed Arnold Schwarzenegger to "swing-cock" the shotgun (used in the "Swing-Cock" shotguns). During filming, the four shotguns were regularly disassembled for cleaning and then reassembled, often resulting in parts from different shotguns being mixed and matched.
- The Model 1887 was the first truly successful repeating shotgun. Its lever-action design was chosen at the behest of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, best known at the time as manufacturers of lever-action firearms such as the Winchester model 1873. Designer John Browning suggested that a pump-action would be much more appropriate for a repeating shotgun, but Winchester management's position was that, at the time, the company was known as a "lever-action firearm company", and felt that their new shotgun must also be a lever-action for reasons of brand recognition. Browning responded by designing a breech-loading, rolling block lever-action. To Winchester's credit, however, they later introduced a Browning designed pump-action shotgun known as the Model 1893 (an early production versi
