Leydon Bryce-Hawkins is a master thief who once went by the sobriquet of "Schrödinger's Cat". When Beka Valentine meets him, or rather is tripped by him, on Pierpont Drift he is the head of Doge Miskich's security force, and prevents her chasing a thief of her own on the grounds that, for a citizen of the Drift, theft is legal. He and Beka play a convoluted game of cat-and-mouse which, with her final gambit, Beka wins. ("A Heart for Falsehood Framed")
